Fourth Year - Text 5 assignment update

Dear Fourth Year,

Please make note: I have changed the assignment list to include text 5. So, starting from Paunovic down to Curovic, you have been assigned units from text 5. Due on Tuesday at 18h.
Now the workload has been balanced out so that everyone does two units during the semester.

Third and Fourth Year - Homework dates

Dear Third and Fourth Year,

Reminder: Besides the assigned texts you get for homework, your second assignment for the semester is to translate all of the texts in the compendium, to bring them to class, ready to ask questions about possible alternate translations. Please be adults about this.

Here are the lists of the homework assignments with dates till the end of semester. The list is, of course, provisional. It will depend on our efficiency to see if we get everything done.

Third Year
Nov. 25 Texts 2 (units 3-5), 3, 4 (due on Nov. 23, noon)

Dec. 2 Texts 5, 6 (due on Nov. 30, noon)

Dec. 9 Test (at the Faculty of Philosophy)

Dec. 16 Text 7, 8 (due on Dec. 14, noon)

Dec. 23 Any leftovers (or an extra assignment)

The Translation Studies lectures will go on the whole time from 12:20-13:05.

Fourth Year

Nov. 19 Text 1 (finish), 2, 3

Nov. 26 Texts 4, 5 (due on Nov. 23, noon)

Dec. 3  Texts 6, 7 (due on Nov. 30, noon)

Dec. 10 Test (at the Faculty of Philosophy)

Dec 17 Text 8 + leftovers (or an extra assignment) (due on Dec. 14, noon)

Dec. 24 No class

Hopefully, this will help you plan for yourselves, and also to know when to send your texts in. Remember, you should turn in your homework between the end of the class and the next Tuesday at noon. Do NOT send texts ahead of time.

Thank you for your participation and cooperation!

Fourth Year - Class Materials

Dear Fourth Year,

In preparation for our work together, I have assembled the necessary materials. As I noted, you have no homework for this week. We have other work to do in class for this Friday.

Here is the course description:

Here is the compendium of texts we will be working on:

And finally, here is your assignment list:

We will be starting on Text 1 next Friday. Remember: your deadline for homework submission is Tuesday at noon. Also remember the format for turning in your homework (substituting OJV 7 for OJV 6, of course):

You know your groups already, but I'll remind you of the times: Group A from 9-11, Group B from 11:15-13:15. The classes will rarely take up the whole time.

I look forward to seeing you on Friday!

Third Year Materials for Class

Dear Third Year (Tr>En1/OJV 5) Students,

I think I now have everything prepared for you.

First, here is a copy of the Course Description:

Tr>En 1 (OJV5) 2021 Course Description

Second, here is the signup sheet, with your text assignments:

 Translation Assignments, Fall 2021

Third, here is the compendium of texts we will be working on, with the units clearly marked:

 Tr>En  1 (OJV5) 2021 Texts for Translation and Discussion

Explanation: In the signup sheet, you'll see a set of columns with the units you are supposed to send me from your completed translations.

The compendium of texts contains eight assignments we should try to finish by December 23. The texts have clearly marked units in them, the numbers are in square brackets [x], colored in red. That's how you'll know which assignment to prepare for which class. I will be keeping a record of whether you turn in your assignments. Please do your colleagues a service by turning in your work on time or even ahead of time.

When I say "on time", the deadline for translations is on Tuesday at noon.

Format: This is fairly simple. Compose and email with the subject line:

 OJV 5, Text x, Unit x

Then just paste your translation unit directly into the email and send it to me.

There is no need for niceties, no need for kind words (or unkind words), just a translation unit. Here is an example from last spring:

 Format for submitting translation units

I will be explaining all of this in class once more on Thursday.

One last thing: regardless of which one of my email accounts you receive email from, please send all assignments, requests, and questions to: randall.major@ff.uns.ac.rs

Please watch this space for the Zoom invitations.

Peace!
