Last week in May
Dear Third and Fourth Year,
In the light of all that has happened, here is the news for this week.
The Third Year will meet for its regular classes on Thursday. The second test will be given in the last 40 minutes of the class.
The Fourth Year, as planned, will not have class on Friday. I will be at a conference in BG as I told you. However, you will have the opportunity to take the second test on Friday at 10:30 (room 26/I). One of my colleagues has agreed to be there to administer the test to you.
I would kindly ask that all of you who are interested appear for a last class during the reading week, that is June 5 and 6, respectively. The make up test will be administered during the last 40 minutes of those classes as well.
As to the Third Year and their projects and presentations: I think it would be unfair under these circumstances, and this late in the semester, to try to force you into translating and presenting. We will postpone these activities for the Translation into English 3/4 courses. Good things come to those who wait.
I hope that you all and your families are safe.
Kindest regards,
Randall

Schedule for May 8 and 9, Exhibition
Dear Third and Fourth Year students,
Classes will be held this week as agreed for the third year on Thursday.
On Friday, because of some simultaneous/consecutive translating that many of you will be doing, both groups are to meet at 11:15 in 26/II. We'll be translating a text about stress and talking about it some, too.
All of you are invited to the opening of an exhibition dedicated to translations done by members of the English Department over the years. The opening will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday in the main library. Hope to see at least some of you there.

Dear Fourth Year,

Basara - Looney Tunes
2. Translate your text as soon as possible. Use all possible tools: dictionaries, the Internet, encyclopedias - whatever you have available to you. (And, yes, there is a copy of the Dictionary of the Matica srpska in the library.)
3. Let the text rest for a day or two, then revise it using the techniques you were taught in the past.
4. Let the text rest one more day.
5. Revise your translation one last time.
6. Give your translation to a classmate to read and make suggestions.
7. Make your final version based on your discussion with your classmate.
8. Send your finished translation to:
stjeromens@gmail.com
with "finished translation project" in the subject line, and a short note to your teacher.

Third Year - Explanation of the Make up Test
Dear Third Year,
There seems to have been a miscommunication between us. Regardless of whether I did not explain it well, or whether you did not understand it well, here is a chance to make it clear.
The make up test is NOT an opportunity to re-take a test you missed or one that you did not do well on. The make up test is all inclusive, one size fits all, covering the whole semester. To be clear: there is only ONE test for everyone.
Looking forward to seeing you tomorrow.
