Fourth Year- Makeup test and leftover presentations

Third Year - Test 2 results and sign up instructions for the make up

Dear Third Year,

Now, if you are missing one of the tests (i.e. weren't present for whatever reason), or if you wish to try to upgrade your score on ONE of the other tests, do the following:

You can only do one of the above on Thursday, so it's important that you specify.
Again, I repeat, tautologically, the third time: I will take the highest of all possible three grades in calculating your average. That average is 50% of your grade for NJV.
The makeup test is at 12 p.m. on Thursday, be on time, at 12.05 I will lock the door.

Third Year - Lecture on Thursday

Dear Third Year,

This is to inform you that there will be no lecture this Thursday at 12 p.m. The practice classes will take place as usual from 10:30 to 12, and from 12:50 to 14:15.
Other obligations prevent me from holding the lecture.
After your makeup test on May 31, there will be a short lecture on "Mistranslations That Have Influenced Western Civilization", but none of the information there will be required knowledge for your further work with me, in the sense of your final, your test grades and so on. So, as you say, "opusteno, brate".
If you're interested, come listen. If not, well, it's springtime!

Fourth Year Presentation Topics

Dear Fourth Year,

It is also possible for you to come up with a topic on your own, with my approval. The topic must be related to translation from Serbian into English.You can let your imagination run wild. In the past I've heard presentations such as:

Third Year - Revised schedule

Dear Third Year,

My personal plans have changed. Especially in the light of my recent health issues and the resulting loss of time, here's a (slightly) revised schedule.

I'm shortening your projects. You will receive instructions about them next week.

Tomorrow we'll be talking about and translating the text by Mladen Vuruna. Next week the one by Dušan Matić. 

Meanwhile, for our 12 o'clock slot, here's a schedule of your tests:

March 29 - Test 1, short translation on paper
May 3 - Test 2, short translation on paper
May 17 - Multiple choice test on Translation Theory
May 24 - Make-up test if you missed one of the others (please the instructions in the previous post about this)
May 31 - Class as scheduled.

Your exam will be at the very end of the exam term.

Fourth Year - a schedule and a few other things

Dear Fourth Year,

On Friday, we'll be translating the text about embryos, fetuses, and whatnot. You'll be receiving a text on acoustics for the following week. Meanwhile, here's a sort of schedule of events for the rest of the semester, as you descend deeply into senioritis:

April 20 - Test 1 (in combination with in-class translation)
May 11 - presentations begin
May 18 - (if necessary) presentations end (in combination with in-class translation)
May 18 - Test 2 (in combination with presentations and in-class translation)
May 25 - Make-up test (in combination with in-class translation) [reminder: one make-up if you missed one of the others, or are trying for a better grade. Same make-up for all!]
June 1 - No classes.

Third Year - a schedule of sorts

Dear Third Year,

Tomorrow we'll be talking and translating about vampires. Next week about European art & stuff. Next week you'll be receiving a new battery of texts for in-class translation.

Meanwhile, for our 12 o'clock slot, here's a schedule of your tests:

March 29 - Test 1, short translation on paper
April 26 - Test 2, short translation on paper
May 17 - Multiple choice test on Translation Theory
May 24 - Make-up test if you missed one of the others.
May 31 - No classes.

For the short translations on paper, you will need to bring a blank piece of paper to make notes for yourself and two pens (in case one goes bad). You will probably not have time to write a rough translation and then re-copy it. It is a timed test, 40 minutes to translate roughly 200 words. You should translate as much of the text as you can, as accurately as you can. Grading criteria will be explained in class tomorrow.
The multiple choice test will cover Translation Theory as we have discussed it over the last two semesters, with an emphasis on this semester's lectures.
NB - for the make-up test, you can take either the multiple choice test or one of the short translation tests, not both. If you tried all three tests and would like to try to make a better grade, you may choose which of the tests you'd like to attempt. There will be a sign up.

Third and Fourth Year - About Classes Feb. 22-23

Dear Third and Fourth Year,

After discussing things with your other teachers, I decided to make things more efficient for all of us. Rather than having you come for an "introductory class", where we spend half an hour talking about what we're about to do instead of doing something, I would rather you did a little translating and/or reading (thereby saving hours of human travel time). So instead of class on February 22 (Third Year) and February 23 (Fourth Year), I'm sending you the links with the homework you need to have ready for March 1 and 2, respectively.

Third Year:
I'm attaching a text which is different from anything we've done so far. Please translate it and be ready to discuss it next week. In addition, for the "lecture" part of your course, I'm attaching another (short!) text about becoming a translator. Please be ready to discuss that in the 12-12:45 time slot.

Dear Third and Fourth Year,

I apologize deeply for being out of touch. I've had a series of illnesses, foreign guests, and just downright (health and other) inconveniences over the past few weeks.
